“Strangers In Masks” by newcomer---TECLA---is an undeniable must-listen. A self-produced music vixen: TECLA writes, sings and records all of her own tracks from a home studio in Manhattan, NY. Using her non-traditional voice coupled with electronic vocal effects, TECLA proves that there are no rules to this game. She fuses her raspy, low vocals with carefree-upbeat synth sounds and pop hooks. TECLA challenges the listener with lyrics that make you confront prolonged notions of beauty, sexuality and gender while still making you dance. She takes you on her very personal journey through her life as an NYC native born to Haitian and Italian parents turned outcast to freak to performer.

TECLA has gone from being a classically trained child pianist to writing and performing for hip-hop/reggae bands, punk/rock bands and electronic/funk bands. Exploring her talents on a variety of synth keyboards she discovered and developed more styles than one can imagine. It is now time for TECLA to be understood and known for her own genre-mixing melodic compositions, danceable-beats, and boundary-breaking lyricism. Having created a signature “electronic-tropical-pop” sound and identity for herself, TECLA’s “Strangers In Masks” has been described as “SWV on acid”, “the rocktronica black cinderella”, and “Buddy Holly meets Pagliacci”. It is hard to think of anything that TECLA cannot do, which makes you want to be intimate with her strange masked mind that much more. Welcome to the Vintage Circus.
